Canada Post has suspended the rotating national mail strike effective November 21, 2025. Students receiving documents from Alberta Student Aid by mail may experience delays due to potential backlogs created by the mail strike.

Electronic correspondence is not affected by a postal strike. Students can continue using the
e-Document Upload feature in their Alberta Student Aid account.

We recommend staying on track by logging in to your secure Alberta Student Aid account, MyLoan account and NSLSC.ca account. You can also set up direct deposit for your account to help avoid delays in receiving funds that can be dispersed electronically.

If you have chosen paper as your preferred correspondence method, you can update your preference to email in your MyLoan account, National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) account, and Alberta Student Aid account.

During the Canada Post service disruption:

  • At this time, verification of Alberta.ca Accounts cannot be completed by mail. Account activation codes can only be sent via SMS text to a mobile phone. If you have recently visited an Alberta Registry and requested a new or updated Driver’s Licence or ID card, you will be able to verify your account using the interim Driver’s Licence or ID card receipt after 3 days from your visit. • Students who wish to send paper correspondence to Alberta Student Aid may experience delays using Canada Post services, which may impact meeting specific application deadlines. Students who wish to send correspondence on an urgent basis must use a courier, at their expense. Please note, paper applications and other correspondence cannot be dropped off in person.

  • Scholarships application forms continue to be available for download from the Scholarships section of the Alberta Student Aid website. Students can submit completed applications and supporting documents through the eDocuments Upload feature in their Alberta Student Aid accounts. To be certain of specific deadlines to apply for scholarships and awards, you can check the details on the Scholarships page.

  • With the transition to regular postal services, Alberta Student Aid has resumed mailing scholarship cheques to students. Delivery of scholarship cheques may still be delayed due to potential backlogs created by recent Canada Post labour disruptions.

Information for Educational Institutions

  • Educational Institutions that mail disability grant refund cheques directly to Program Financial Support can resume mail service with Canada Post. There may be delays due to potential backlogs created by the recent mail strike.
