Alberta Student Aid Scholarships and Awards Operational Policy Manual
Introduction
The Alberta Student Aid Scholarships and Awards Operational Policy Manual is intended to provide scholarship specific policy and procedure guidance to Alberta Student Aid staff, stakeholders, post-secondary institutions, and students.
Unless otherwise indicated, the policies and procedures described in this manual are effective for study periods starting on or after August 1, 2023 until July 31, 2024, which is considered the Alberta Student Aid funding year.
The manual provides policy guidance for scholarships and awards. Advanced Education’s scholarships and awards outlined in this manual are paid directly through Advanced Education’s budget. Unique scholarship and award criteria will be specified in the subsections of this manual.
The manual is divided into four chapters. Chapters 1 to 4 provide policy guidance on Alberta Government scholarships and awards, which are adminstered by Alberta Student Aid. For the policies and procedures related to scholarships and awards with unique criteria, exceptions and delivery methods, see Chapter 4.

Alberta Student Aid policy is shown in bolded text and all other procedures, clarifying notes and examples are written in regular text. In some cases, the legislation has been summarized.
In the case of a conflict between the legislation and this resource, the legislation will prevail. This manual only applies to Alberta Student Aid policies and procedures. However, in some cases explanation on how Alberta Student Aid administers the Canada Student Financial Assistance Program is included for clarity.
