Due to course interruptions, many high school and post-secondary students may receive a pass/fail mark for the 2020-21 school year.

To help high school students achieve an Alberta Education Credential, Alberta Education has made the following program changes:

  • A school awarded mark will be used to determine all, or part, of the official diploma course mark on the Alberta High School Transcript of Achievement.

  • Introduced three new course codes to enable principals to recommend credits for courses students are unable to complete remotely.

Additionally, school closures and changes to grading systems in other national and international jurisdictions may have also impacted scholarships and awards provided to Albertans.

Alexander Rutherford High School Achievement Scholarship

Alberta Advanced Education will assign a 90 per cent grade to the three new course codes introduced by Alberta Education. These courses can be used to determine eligibility for the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship for the 2020-21 school year.

Dr. Ernest and Minnie Mehl Scholarship | Rutherford Scholar

Alexander Rutherford Scholarship recipients are eligible to receive these two awards. Students who have completed their diploma exams are eligible for this award for the 2020-2021 school year.

Jason Lang Scholarship

Students must have received a minimum 3.2 Grade Point Average in the 2019 Fall Term, AND have received a pass mark for all courses completed in the 2020 Winter Term (based on an 80% full-course load in the 2019-2020 academic year).

If institutions assigned a Grade Point Average in Winter 2020, students are eligible for the Jason Lang scholarship as usual.

Alberta Graduate Students Travel Incentive

This grant program is suspended until further notice.
