Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship

Alberta Student Aid is supporting post-secondary students by improving its graduate scholarships and awards program. The new Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship, which consolidates the following seven existing award programs, will help more students pursue graduate studies in Alberta.

  • Alberta Ukrainian Centennial Commemorative Scholarship
  • Graduate Citizenship Award
  • Graduate Student Scholarship
  • Helen Hunley Public Policy Graduate Scholarship
  • Indigenous Graduate Award
  • International Education Award – Ukraine
  • Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship

Overall funding for graduate scholarships, including the Indigenous Graduate Award, is not reduced by the amalgamation. A minimum amount of funding is designated for Indigenous students. Students who receive the new AGES scholarship will receive similar, or even increased amounts, compared to the previous programs.

Supported by stakeholders, this amalgamation comes after consultations with post-secondary schools and adult learning system partners, and makes graduate scholarships more accessible for students studying in Alberta. It also reduces red tape and administrative burden for schools and government by amalgamating a suite of complex awards into a streamlined program.
