Flooding Support Information
The Canada Student Financial Assistance Program has implemented measures to support Alberta borrowers impacted by the flooding in Canada.
Alberta Student Aid will not reach out to notify students directly. These processes apply only to borrowers/students who call and notify us of the impacts of flooding on their studies.
We will update this webpage as new information is made available.

Harmonized RAP borrowers:
- Canada Student Financial Assistance Program (CSFAP) and Alberta Student Aid will be offering impacted borrowers expedited and easier access to RAP by calling the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC). Borrowers with both Canada and Alberta student loans benefit from a harmonized RAP application processes, where borrowers only need to submit one loan application to be considered for RAP benefits for both their Alberta and Canada student loans.
- Borrowers who do contact NSLSC will be placed on a priority call list and an NSLSC agent will help them apply for RAP over the phone. Impacted borrowers will be allowed to provide a verbal attestation rather than proof of income documentation for the previous month. RAP benefits may be back-dated up to six months, based on verbal attestations.
- Assistance is not automatic and borrowers will need to contact NSLSC and identify themselves as impacted by flooding. Borrowers who do not reach out will be expected to continue making their monthly loan payments.
Alberta only RAP:
- Alberta Student Aid will administer the same RAP benefits to borrowers who only have Alberta student loans.
- Assistance is not automatic and borrowers will need to contact the Alberta Student Aid Service Centre (ASASC) and identify themselves as impacted by flooding.
- ASASC agents will help borrowers complete their Alberta RAP application over the phone. Impacted borrowers will be allowed to provide a verbal attestation rather than proof of income documentation for the previous month. RAP benefits may be back-dated up to six months, based on verbal attestations.
- Borrowers who do not reach out will be expected to continue making their monthly loan payments.

Defaulted Borrowers |
Federal NSLSC:
- Borrowers with defaulted Canada student loans who self-identify as affected by flooding during outbound delinquency call campaigns may choose to have collection calls temporarily suspended.
- The NSLSC will continue to make the following outbound calls because they provide benefits to the borrowers:
Disbursement Contact to borrowers to address issues relating to getting their disbursement.
End of Study Contact to borrowers to address an exception on their period of study end date to allow them to stay in good standing.
RAP Oriented Calls Both exception handling and renewals will continue.
Pre-consolidation Calls As borrowers they may not receive mail, and the NSLSC do not want to risk having funds come out of bank accounts without advanced notification, NSLSC will continue to contact borrowers about their upcoming repayment.

Their defaulted Canada student loans would receive the CSFAP benefits listed above because their Canada student loans are not held at CDC.
- Borrowers with defaulted Alberta loans would need to contact CDC to temporarily stop collections activities.
- Borrowers who do not contact CDC will remain in collections, and will continue to receive collection calls and are expected to continue making regular payments.
