Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)/Career and Technology Studies (CTS) Scholarships

The funds for the RAP/CTS scholarships are provided from a joint investment of contributions from the private sector and the Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund. Learn more about the list of donors at:

$1,000 (500 RAP/CTS scholarships are awarded annually)

Eligibility Criteria:

RAP students must:

  • be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and residents of Alberta as defined by Student Aid Alberta
  • have completed the requirements for high school graduation
  • be registered as Alberta apprentices while attending high school
  • have completed a minimum of 250 hours of on-the-job training and work experience in a trade
  • be continuing in an approved regular apprenticeship program
  • have NOT been awarded a RAP/CTS Scholarship previously, and
  • have at least one period of technical training remaining

To be considered for a RAP award, your application must be supported by a completed employer recommendation form.

CTS apprenticeship pathway students must:

  • be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and residents of Alberta as defined by Student Aid Alberta
  • be a registered Alberta apprentice or plan to register within 12 months
  • have completed the requirements for high school graduation
  • have completed one of the five apprenticeship pathways: automotive service technician, carpenter, cook, hairstylist or welder
  • have at least one period of technical training remaining, and
  • have NOT been awarded a RAP/CTS Scholarship previously

To be considered for a CTS award, your application must be supported by:

  • two or three paragraphs (written or typed) talking about yourself, confirming plans to continue an apprenticeship program and explaining why you selected a career in the trades and why it is a "good fit", and
  • a certified copy of your Record of Courses Completed form provided by your supervising teacher (this form must be completed and signed by your teacher, principal and journeyperson instructor)

Selection Process:

Selection of scholarship recipients is made by a committee established by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board. Recipients will be selected on the basis of their employers' recommendations and marks.
