Scholarships and awards in this listing are offered by the Government of Alberta and administered by Alberta Student Aid.

Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarship

One award is provided per year to support academically superior students undertaking full-time research education. Applicants must be pursuing full-time studies at either:

  • University of Alberta
  • University of Calgary
  • University of Lethbridge

The program is designed to enable students to succeed in Platform Areas of scientific research in the areas of: 

  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • Nanotechnology

Value:

Master’s Full Value: $26,500 per year         Doctoral full value: $31,500 per year

  • Applicants not holding a major National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) award are eligible to receive the full value of the award.

  • Applicants who receive a NSERC award are eligible to receive the full value of the award as follows:
    • Major Award (e.g. NSERC) Top-up: $12,000 per year

Eligibility Criteria:

Open to Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents living in Alberta.

Applicants must be pursuing full-time studies at either:

  • University of Alberta
  • University of Calgary
  • University of Lethbridge

Selection Process:

Applicants are selected through a competitive process whereby each application is adjudicated by a review committee. The university receives strategic direction from Alberta Innovates each year to ensure that research projects are aligned with Alberta Innovate’s Platform areas.

Applicants apply through the Faculty of Graduate studies at their university.
