What happens after you apply?
When you apply, you are automatically considered for both Alberta and Canada student aid. If you are approved, you may receive student loans and grants from both Student Aid Alberta and the Canada Student Loans Program.
If your application for student aid is successful, you will receive a Notice of Assessment in the mail, usually within two weeks. If you submitted a paper application, you will receive notification within four weeks. Visit our Getting Your Money section to learn more.
You can apply for student aid either before or during your post-secondary studies. We are able to process applications up to 30 days before you leave your program.
Your Notice of Assessment confirms the amount of Canada or Alberta loan or grant funding you are eligible to receive, and when you can expect to receive the funding. If you are not approved, you will receive a letter explaining why.
How can I find out the status of my application?
There are several ways to check the status of your application. Whatever option you choose, you'll need your Social Insurance Number, your Alberta Student Number and/or your Student Identification Number.
